NY Man Gets 6 Years In Prison For Groton Shooting

Nathan "NeNe" Ramos, 26, of New York, took a deal of a 6-year prison bid for shooting his girlfriend's former boyfriend in Groton in 2018.

GROTON CITY, CT — A city police investigation led to a guilty plea and six-year prison sentencefor a New York man who shot his girlfriend's former boyfriend in 2018.

On March 11, 2018, Nathan "NeNe" Ramos, 26 of Brooklyn took the train from the city to New Haven and was then driven to Groton so he could fight, and then later shoot, his firend's girlfriend's former boyfriend, according to reports and court documents.

The victim was treated for a gunshot wound and released from the hospital at the time.

According to The Day, on Wednesday, Ramos took a plea deal before his case was set to go to a Superior Court jury trial.

According to online records, Ramos pleaded out to first degree assault and carrying a pistol with a permit. He'll be sentenced on March 11, 2020, records show. Charges that were either dropped or not adjudicated because of the plea deal included witness tampering, and two additional felonies.

New York State prison records show Ramos was locked up in 2012 for third-degree burglary and paroled in 2013. And Ramos was incarcerated for car theft in 2015 and released on parole in 2017. Parolees are not allowed to have firearms.

Nine days after the shooting, police had a warrant for his arrest and extradition from New York. He was picked up by the NYPD on March 26, signed a waiver of extradition and on April 5, 2018, Groton City Police detectives went to New York to get him. He's been in jail since.


Thursday, City of Groton Police took to Facebook to thank law enforcement partners, including the New York Police Department, and commend the work of its investigators on the case: Detective Sgt. Travis Winkelman, Corporal Dave Holliday, and detective Dan Grimm with assistance from patrol officers.

Clarified to note it was a friend's girlfriend, not Ramos'.
