Poquonnock Bridge Safety Issues

Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department –

I was recently driving around town and noticed the large expanse of land between the new home of Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department and the distance from structures near the old building and have questions.  If there were to be a fire in the Poquonnock Bridge section of town (like on the eastern side of the Poquonnock River, east of the reservoir) and at the same time a major car accident on the western side of town near Long Hill Road and the responders had to respond in two directions, who would get left out?  This is a serious question since the vacating of the older building near the Poquonnock River.  Now, let’s add the inevitable addition of a major storm or other catastrophe, and where does that leave the people on each side of the river?  I would expect that all residents who own property have contacted their insurance company to let them know of the newly found predicament as their rates could be affected due to time response.  This is no reflection of the abilities of these great fire fighters who respond but simply a geographical issue.  So, some serious issues still remain for residents of the town’s largest fire district to fix.  Lawsuits and injunctions most likely won’t solve this issue which seems to be a huge liability where possible lives are at stake. 

Wonder why the tempers have been flaring for so many months now.  Do readers have any better solutions to this safety, economic and dangerous situation?  Even with mutual aid, there may never be enough time to do the proper rescue for the people in the outer ranges.  How long did the town take to finally get a water tower for Fitch High School when they realized that the school could be in jeopardy of burning down as the water supply was inadequate for many years. 

Is this something we will now have to bond so that taxpayers will be protected?  What if we had children in the old Fitch Middle School or even a newer school as was proposed?  Who would respond first and how long would it take to get there.  A seriously hot issue here.
