Groton Police Cleared In Review Of Fatal Crash Investigation
A review of a police investigation into a crash that left one teen dead and three others injured was recently completed.
GROTON, CT — A review of the investigation of a 2024 fatal motor vehicle crash involving juveniles has concluded and found no wrongdoing by police.
Daigle Law Group, which conducted the review, found that the Town of Groton Police Department "followed all established department policies and procedures and pursued all investigatory leads available," according to a police statement regarding the report.
The complaint was related to an October 2024 crash on Fishtown Road, which led to the death of 14-year-old Carson Wilson and left three others seriously injured.

The complaint alleged that the police department "failed to conduct a timely, thorough, and compassionate investigation into a fatal motor vehicle crash... (and) did not adequately pursue leads related to underage drinking and associated criminal activity, and took no meaningful enforcement action."

The review included 123 case/incident reports and 48 body-worn camera recordings as well as interviews with law enforcement personnel involved in the incident response and investigation.
"We acknowledge the profound tragedy caused by the October 2024 motor vehicle crash," Chief L. J. Fusaro said in a statement. "Our agency cooperated fully with the investigation, and we accept the findings contained in the report released today with legally required redactions. While we know that no investigation or report can lessen the grief on the family, the Town of Groton and the Groton Police Department remain steadfast in our commitment to professionalism, accountability, transparency and compassion."
In January 2025, the 17-year-old driver in the crash was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, first-degree assault, misconduct with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, DUI under 21, and multiple motor vehicle violations, according to the report.
