Residents Urge Commission To Keep Groton's Representative Town Meeting
Groton residents urged the town's Charter Revision Commission to keep the Representative Town Meeting as opposed to replacing it.

GROTON, CT - Groton residents urged the town's Charter Revision Commission to keep the Representative Town Meeting as opposed to replacing it, the New London Day reported. The commission had been considering replacing the meeting with a Board of Finance.
The commission's recommended changes would dissolve the meeting and install a seven-member Board of Finance, according to the New London Day. An annual budget referendum would then be held, in which town and education budgets would be voted on separately. Speakers during the meeting Monday told the commission this change would essentially place more power in the hands of fewer people, the New London Day reported. They also suggested it could potentially disenfranchise voters in the community.
