Reports Of 'Suspicious Male' Following Hiker At Groton State Park Under Investigation
Police are investigating after a report of a suspicious person at a state park earlier this month.

GROTON, CT — Police are investigating after a report of a suspicious person at Bluff Point State Park at the beginning of the month.
"We are working in coordination with the Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police, who have primary jurisdiction over this matter," police said in a Facebook post. "They have been in contact with the reporting party, and our department will continue to support their investigation as needed."
Police said that despite "references circulating on social media" there's no evidence the incident is connected to any other incident in Groton or in Rhode Island.

The incident occurred April 3 with a hiker saying he was followed. As the incident occurred at a state park, police turned it over to state officials.
Environmental Conservation police thoroughly searched the area but did not find anyone or any vehicle matching a description provided by the victim, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

An Environmental Conservation police official said that no suspects have been identified and that there have been no similar complaints. He said it appears to be an "isolated incident," Hearst Connecticut Media reported.
In other news, a man was reported missing in Groton last month. Steven Joseph Gush, 38, was last seen 3 p.m. on March 29 by family members in Ledyard.
Town of Groton police have conducted extensive searches along Gold Star Highway (Route 184) using drones, search-and-rescue K-9 teams, and state police divers.
