Adirondack Chair Stolen from Jacobs Beach in Guilford, Security Updated

The donated chair was stolen nearly two weeks ago.

A new, donated Adirondack chair was stolen from Jacobs Beach nearly two weeks ago, the Parks and Recreation Department announced on the town’s Facebook page.

Additional security measures have been added at the beach since the chair was stolen, Jack Kramer reports from The Guilford Courier. Police are patrolling the beach more often and thicker cables will be installed to secure the remaining chairs and benches at the beach.

The chair was donated by a Guilford family in memory of a loved one.

All chairs are donated by families or individuals and have deep meaning, said Rick Maynard, Director of Parks and Recreation. The stolen chair was chained to a second deck chair donated by the same family, Maynard said.

“The person cut the cable to steal the chair,” Maynard said. “We’re very upset that someone would stoop to this level to steal something that has so much meaning.”
