The annual veterans essay contest, in the past a $1,000 scholarship award, was increased to also present a $500 award to a runner up. Additionally, a patriotic essay contest was held for 6th graders at Baldwin Middle School and for 8th graders at Adams middle school. Winners at the two middle schools were awarded $500 and a hoodie.

Post 48 also expanded its sponsorship of students to attend Boys State as well as Girls State. Instead of only sponsoring one student to attend each, Post 48 was able to sponsor four to Boys State and Two to Girls State.
