Selectman Cindy Cartier Responds to State Senator Ed Meyer's Wild Allegations
Selectman Cindy Cartier, the Republican candidate for State Senate in the 12th District (including Branford, Guilford, Madison, Durham, Killingworth and North Branford) responded to State Senator Ed Meyer’s allegation made at his campaign announcement in Guilford that Linda McMahon, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, was planning on providing $100,000 to support five state senate campaigns insinuating that would include the 12th District and the campaign of his opponent Cindy Cartier, Guilford Selectman.
Ms. Cartier responded, “Ed Meyer knows better than to make such wild allegations. He would be insinuating that my campaign would accept money that would violate campaign finance laws and violate my personal responsibility as the candidate for State Senator to keep my campaign committee’s spending within the limits set by the state law.”
Cartier, who is a Selectman in Guilford compared Meyer’s allegations to the wild speculations made by U.S. Senator Harry Reid about Governor Mitt Romney’s payment of taxes over the last ten years. “I think Ed has stooped to the level of Harry Reid and followed his disgraceful habit of making accusations even from the
floor of the Senate based on no facts or evidence.”

Cartier said, “Ed Meyer is trying to distract voters from the essential issues of the campaign, an out of control, wild spending Democratic led legislature which he is a part of and a weak Connecticut economy that leaves tens of thousands without decent paying jobs and many small business owners going broke. His statement of support of Governor Malloy’s administration, billions in new tax revenues and
spending, shows how out of touch he is with the average Connecticut voter.”
Cartier indicated that she will continue to bring her positive ideas for making our economy stronger to voters. “If our legislature will vote to reduce taxes and spending and truly make our state a place that all businesses are welcome, then those seeking work will be able to find jobs and their families will be able to enjoy the basics of life without the constant worry of where the next rent check or mortgage or tuition payment will come from.”
