GUILFORD, CT — First Selectman Matt Hoey has declared a Local Civil Preparedness Emergency, more commonly known as a state of emergency for the town in response and "acknowledgement of the serious threats posed by the Covid- 19 pandemic."

“The Town of Guilford, like many other communities, needs to be prepared to take emergency measures to preserve and protect the public health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of Guilford,” Hoey said in a press release.

"While there has not been a singular event or change in the local situation regarding the virus, the Board of Selectman unanimously passed a resolution of support for the declaration" at its meeting on Monday, Hoey said.

Hoey said that after Gov. Ned Lamont's most recent executive order, "banning gatherings of more than 50 people, restricting bars and restaurants that serve food to take-out only while closing those that don’t serve food, as well as closing movie theaters, gyms and fitness centers, reminds us of the seriousness of this threat."

"A leadership team is meeting or communicating regularly as events unfold on the national, state and local level. Our Emergency Operations Center is partially open and all town resources are prepared to address the challenges this will eventually present to the members of our community," Hoey said.
