Decision Reached on Later Start Times at Guilford High School

The Guilford school board has been studying whether to push back start times at the high school and a decision on next year has been made.

The Guilford Board of Education approved a $58.6 million budget for fiscal 2016-17, which increases spending 1.99 percent over the current year’s spending plan.

But the big news is the announcement that the school system will not implement a plan to push back the start time at Guilford High School so students can get more sleep, the New Haven Register reports.

School officials said the district’s bus company is not on board with the idea yet and their contract is in effect until 2018, and implementing such a change would reopen the entire contract. Some board members were not happy that the start times aren’t changing in time for next year.
