GUILFORD, CT – The fact that there will be a primary for the Republican first selectman race doesn’t matter much to the Democratic nominee for the same position.
“It really does not impact what I do,” said Matt Hoey, who won the Democratic caucus nomination to be its first selectman candidate this November.

“I’m still focused on the same issues regardless of who I wind up running against,” said Hoey.
Hoey will face GOP caucus endorsed Robert Hartmann or Ken MacKenzie, who this week submitted petitions with enough signatures to force a September primary for the GOP spot against Hartmann.

Hoey said he has no preference as to who he would rather run against.
“I’ll be spending my time between now and November meeting as many voters as I can. We believe in our Democratic team and we are going to stick to our message.”
Hoey has stated, if elected, he would strive to improve civic engagement, perhaps by holding more public meetings, online video streams, etc; and, to continue to focus on expanding business development in town “as long as it fits in the character of Guilford.”
Incumbent Republican First Selectman Joe Mazza is not seeking re-election after running the town for two, four-year terms.
