Guilford Businesses Report Being Contacted by Scammers

Police say the scam involves someone claiming to be calling from a bill collection for a local utility.

Local businesses have been receiving scam calls from people claiming to be from Eversource Bill Collection. The scammers are stating that the electric bill has not been paid and if it is not paid immediately, the electric will be shut off.

Just be aware that Eversource will not call you and demand money over the phone. They will send numerous letters prior to ever shutting off the electricity. When in doubt, hang up and call Eversource directly and confirm your billing status.

Never give out personal information over the phone to someone you do not know. Scammers can disguise their numbers on caller ID to appear to be legitimate numbers, so go the extra step to call back the listed number for the company before discussing personal information on your account.
