Guilford earns 17 Connecticut High School Musical Theatre Award Nominations

Sweeney Todd; Guilford High School; Connecticut High School Music Theatre Awards; Educational Theatre; Guilford

The Connecticut High School Musical Theatre Awards announced the nominees yesterday for outstanding work in educational theatre for the 2016-2017 season. Guilford High School Theatre Arts was recognized in seventeen of nineteen categories. Nominations include:

Outstanding Production of the Year -- Sweeney Todd

Director -- Cara Mulqueen-Teasdale

Scenery -- Nick Ripa, Jeffrey Gall, Dave Valley & GHSTA Set, Scenic Design and Properties crews

Lighting -- Dave Spence & GHSTA Lighting Crew

Sound -- Chad Emerson & GHSTA Sound Crew

Best Lobby -- GHSTA House Crew

Outstanding Chorus -- GHSTA

Best Supporting Actor -- Will Smith

Best Supporting Actor -- Carter Popkin

Best Supporting Actress -- Karley Krickmeir

Best Featured Actor -- Tyler Felson

Best Featured Actress -- Mikayla Zeitlin

Award recipients will be announced from the stage of The Palace Theater, Waterbury, on Monday, June 5, 2017, in a black tie gala. Tickets are on sale through the Palace Theater Box office.

The CHSMTA program recognizes excellence on stage and behind the scenes. Their mission statement states that "We do not believe that everyone deserves an award for 'showing up;' We believe that exceptional achievement should be celebrated as beacons of inspiration and aspiration."
