Guilford Fire Chief Reappointed But It Wasn't Unanimous
The Board of Selectmen recently voted on the reappointment.

GUILFORD, CT – Fire Chief Charles Herrschaft, Jr. was recently reappointed to his position through June 2020, but the vote of the Board of Selectmen wasn’t unanimous.
Four selectman, including First Selectman Joseph Mazza, voted to reappoint the fire chief to another term.

But Selectman Gary MacElhiney voted against the reappointment.
MacElhiney in explaining his vote, said he was “opposed for reasons stated in the executive session” discussion concerning the fire chief’s reappointment, before the selectmen came back into the open session to take the vote.

He did not elaborate.
Herrschaft has been a member of the Guilford Fire Department for close to four decades.
