GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford man accused of stabbing a Greenwich woman in a Westport parking lot in 2020 has rejected a plea deal that would have given him a 13-year prison sentence, according to the Connecticut Post.

Prosecutors offered the accused—Ellis Tibere, who was 18 at the time of the stabbing—the deal due to his "age, lack of criminal record, as well as his mental health status," Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Moran told the outlet.

Had Tibere taken the offer, he would have pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, and violating conditions of release, the Connecticut Post reported. The attempted murder charge would have been off the table.

The victim, who was 33 at the time, suffered a serious leg injury in the attack.

After his January 2020 arrest, Tibere was released on bond, but spent time at the Whiting Forensic Hospital in Middletown under evaluation.

Following his release from Whiting, Tibere was back at home when he removed the GPS monitoring device on his ankle. That led to another arrest in December 2020, and he has been in custody since then.

He has also undergone two mental evaluations and was found to be competent to stand trial.
