Guilford Man to Serve 8 Years for Sex Assault, Other Charges

A sentence was handed down to a Guilford man who was accused of multiple sexual offenses.
Jason R. Murphy, 27, will serve eight years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and enticing a minor by computer, according to an article in the New Haven Register.
Murphy first contacted his victims on the Internet and then “tricked and manipulated” them, the Register said.

In one of the cases, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Maxine Wilensky said Murphy had sex with a girl under the age of 16 after he had told her via a mobile texting app that he was 18.
The agreement that led to his guilty plea included a 20-year sentence that would be suspended after eight years, 15 years of probation and many other conditions.
