Guilford Police Caution Residents About a Scam
Police say the scam is targeting local residents.

Via the Guilford Police Department Facebook page.
A number of local residents and business owners are falling victim to the Eversource Energy scam. Eversource is a power company that provides legitimate electrical services to your home or business but some are using the company name to scam you out of your money.
The calls are being made from out of the country but the number (866) 978-6849 will show on your caller ID. The caller will identify him or herself as a collections agent from Eversource Energy and will advise you that your bill is passed due. They then advise that your electricity will be shut off by the end of the day unless you pay them with a pre-paid card. They will instruct you to go to a retailer who sells the pre-paid card like Wal-Mart or Big Y and load a certain amount of money on the card. They will then instruct you to either provide the card information to them over the phone or logon to a specific website to pay the false bill with the pre-paid card. Once the transaction is completed, the victim loses the money and there is little chance of getting it returned.
