GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer to serve the town, according to an announcement from the department.
The department, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the State of Connecticut, said it is seeking a team-oriented, community-focused and professional candidate.
The department offers a range of special assignments, including participation in the South Central Regional SWAT Team, Regional Dive Team, School Resource Officer program, Crime Prevention Team, Regional Traffic Team and a Peer Support Team.

Starting pay for entry-level officers is listed at $38.23 per hour, or $79,518.40 annually, with a top step of $45.92 per hour, or $95,513.60 annually.
Beginning July 1, 2026, probationary officers are expected to earn $40.21 per hour, or $83,636.80 annually, with a top step salary of $48.09 per hour, or $100,027.20 annually.

Benefits include wages and benefits outlined in the collective bargaining agreement, as well as a 401(a) retirement plan requiring a 3 percent to 8 percent employee contribution with a town match of up to 8 percent. Beginning July 1, 2026, the town is expected to offer a 401(a) plan with an 8 percent employee contribution and a 13 percent town match.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and must establish residency within 20 miles of Guilford within 18 months of appointment. Candidates are required to pass a written exam, oral interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical exams, including drug screening.
Applications are being accepted online for the entry-level position. Entry-level candidates must also register for and pass the CPCA exam and complete the CHIP test.
