Guilford Police Warn Pet Owners of Fisher Cats

Fisher cats are known to attack cats and small dogs as source of food. Plus they have an extremely eerie call.

GUILFORD, CT- Police are warning pet owners to keep small dogs and cats in sight due to a number of fisher cat sightings in town.

Fisher cats are a member of the weasel family. Their diet consists of small wildlife and plants, but they won't pass up a cat or small dog for a meal if given the chance.

The fisher cat it nocturnal but can be active any time of the day. Baby fishers are born in March or April and are weaned for four months.

Last year a Ledyard resident's dog was viciously attacked by a fisher cat.
