Guilford Police Warn Residents About a New Scam

****************Security System Scam*************

Recently, we have had reports of suspicious security system calls to our residents. The victims have advised that they received calls from scammers claiming to be from their security system company who have stated that they are upgrading their current system.

The scammers will ask about number of doors and windows that have sensors and locations of such, indicating that they need this for the upgraded equipment. Some victims have provided the information, only to later discover that their real security company was not the one who called.

Some of these scammers are calling to bilk you out of money with fake systems, while others are looking to find out how best to burglarize your home. The best way to handle this type of call is to hang up and call your company directly to make sure the offer is valid. Never give out your information over the phone unless you are speaking with a trusted source.
