Winner Revealed In Guilford Republican First Selectman Primary: UPDATE

Two Republicans battled to become their party's nominee this fall during Tuesday's primary.

UPDATE: On primary night, Ken MacKenzie defeated Republican Town Committee endorsed first selectman candidate Robert Hartmann Jr. MacKenzie will now run against Democratic endorsed candidate Matt Hoey in November to determine who will be the next first selectman. Two-term GOP Mayor Joseph Mazza Jr. decided not to seek reelection.

MacKenzie wrote on social media Tuesday night, "Thanks to all the voters!! We won 733 to 295. We are so appreciative of the support of Guilford Republicans!"

GUILFORD, CT – Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12th for Republican voters to choose between party endorsed candidate Robert Hartmann, Jr. and Ken MacKenzie as their choice for first selectman.

Hartmann won a close race for the party endorsement over MacKenzie, who then secured the required number of signatures to force a primary for the first selectman post.

Whoever wins will face Democrat endorsed candidate Matt Hoey in the November general election.

Whoever wins that election will replace two-term incumbent Joseph Mazza Jr., who decided not to seek a third, four-year term to the town’s top elected position.

The polling place locations are: District 1 Calvin Leete School, 280 South Union St., District 2 Abraham Baldwin Middle School, 68 Bullard Dr., District 3 Guilford Fire Department Headquarters, 390 Church St., District 4 Melissa Jones School, 181 Ledge Hill Rd., District 5 A. W. Cox School, 143 Three Mile Course.
