Guilford's First Selectman Has 'Grave Concerns' Over A Recent Request

Joseph Mazza said he is very worried that if a budget is not approved soon that Gov. Malloy will take action hurting the town.

GUILFORD, CT — First Selectman Joseph Mazza has "grave concerns" over receiving a recent request from a top state official and he's asked local state representatives to act on behalf of Guilford.

In a letter to local state representatives, Mazza writes, "On August 7, 2017 my office received a request from Secretary Barnes at OPM to submit the town of Guilford's estimated total fund balance for Fiscal Year 2017, and the projected fund balance, and the unassigned fund balance for fiscal year 2018..."

"This request raises grave concerns for me as First Selectman of the Town of Guilford, since the State of Connecticut has failed to produce a budget. I am asking you, as representatives of the Town of Guilford, to extend all your efforts in the State Legislature to come to an agreement on producing a State budget that will protect the citizens of Guilford, and the Town of Guilford," Mazza wrote.

"I am extremely concerned that if a budget is not passed quickly, the Governor will inflict a huge blow to our town finances, which will be tremendously unfair to the Town of Guilford and ultimately our residents by impacting our services and financial position," Mazza wrote.

The letter was addressed to State Sen. Ted Kennedy and state representatives, Vincent Candelora and Sean Scanlon.
