Guilford Republican Board of Finance member, Ken MacKenzie, has submitted a petition to call a primary to obtain his party’s nomination for the First Selectman seat. “Following the caucus, I received dozens of calls, emails, and texts, encouraging me to pursue the nomination. It was truly humbling and inspiring,” said MacKenzie.
He was able to quickly collect the signatures needed from his many supporters and is looking forward to securing the nomination at the primary to be held on September 12th and then the First Selectman seat in November.

Among MacKenzie’s supporters is longtime Selectwoman Cindy Cartier, who stated she is “thrilled” with MacKenzie’s decision to submit a petition.
“Ken has proven that he is a fiscal conservative who seeks to offer the benefits of his professional experience to move the Town forward by consistently putting forth ideas to increase efficiencies and improve upon performance in the business of running our Town.” She added, “Anyone who knows Ken knows that it is his strong belief that more participation in local government is needed from residents to foster a better ‘by the people for the people’ dialogue.”

Former Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Republican Town Committee, Tom Cost, agrees with Cartier, saying, “One of the reasons I am supporting Ken is because as I got to know Ken from his participation at Commission meetings, it became clear to me that the comments he made weren’t made out of self-interest but to encourage people to think about what was in the best interests of our Town.”
MacKenzie says this is what he enjoys most about volunteering and the campaign process: “In the past week, I have met more and more residents who share my ideals and my aspirations for Guilford. I hope I have provided a positive voice to communicate residents’ ideas in my service to the Town and will continue to aim to do so.”
Republican Primary is scheduled for September 12, 2017.
