Man Who Burglarized Home In Guilford Identified: Police

GUILFORD, CT — The man who was spotted by an alert neighbor breaking into a home in Guilford Monday morning and who was captured after an extensive search, which ended up in a marsh area, has been identified by police Tuesday morning.

"The Guilford Police would like to advise that the male suspect has been positively identified as Edward Richtkowski, 45, of East Haven. Investigation continues into his possible involvement in multiple incidents throughout Guilford and surrounding towns," Guilford police said Tuesday.

There have been numerous residential burglaries reported in Guilford and Madison recently. Assisting Guilford police with Monday's arrest included: Madison, North Branford and Connecticut State Police. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also assisted.

Guilford police said just before 10 a.m. Monday officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the area of Seaside Lane. A white male was seen entering the garage of a home, police said. A neighbor knew the residents weren't home and called police, police said.

Police responded quickly and several other departments including Madison, North Branford and State Police also came to the scene. Police officers and K-9 units searched a marsh area with support from the Guilford Fire Department.

The Connecticut State Police Helicopter was contacted and responded to assist in the search, police said. With the assistance of alert citizens, police were able to limit the suspect's movement and contain him in a smaller area, police said.

"The Pilots of Trooper 1 located the suspect and the Madison Police's Sgt. Baxter and his K9 partner Paco were able to apprehend the male," police said.
