More Residential Burglaries Reported In Guilford: UPDATE

Police gave new details today about the types of homes being burglarized in town. BREAKING

GUILFORD, CT — More burglaries have been reported in Guilford since the weekend and police are urging residents to make sure they secure their homes. During the weekend police said seven residential burglaries had been reported in town, all during the day when no one was home.

On Tuesday, police said more burglaries have been reported since the weekend and that there is no specific area of town being affected.

The residences are being targeted during the daytime hours and are mostly located in cul-de-sacs and less traveled roads, police said. These targeted homes are mostly set back from the public road, limiting the view of passing motorists, police said.

"The Guilford Police Department would like to urge citizens to secure their home, to include second story windows and doors. We would also encourage citizens to call the Guilford Police Department if you encounter any unrecognized individuals going to your home or neighboring homes. This includes those soliciting door-to-door, requesting directions, claiming to be lost or looking for a pet. Burglars commonly use this as a tactic to determine if a residence is occupied," police said.

Police said if you see anything suspicious to contact them immediately.
