New Guilford Fireboat Ready for Emergencies
A federal grant paid for 75 percent of the cost.

Guilford is now better prepared for emergencies on Long Island Sound with the addition of a new fireboat.
An article in the New Haven Register said that the $457,000 aluminum fireboat is now permanently docked at the Guilford Town Marina.
The previous vessel had been in service since 1988 and was originally designed for sport fishing, the article said.

The new boat is equipped with several sources of water, including a water cannon in front and a pump on the side.
Canvas hoses can be attached to the back of the boat to act as a fire hydrant.

The Register reported that the new fireboat has been dispatched four time in the first two weeks of operation.
A federal grant paid for 75 percent of the cost, with donation from the Harbor Management Commission, Marina Commission, Shellfish Commission and Sachem’s Head Yacht Club making up the rest.
