New IRS Scam Targets Guilford Residents
Guilford police share the phone number that is being used by those trying to scam residents.

Several residents have reported suspicious calls they received from someone identifying themselves as investigators for the U.S. Treasury Department.
The caller states that they are taking legal action against the person receiving the call unless they receive the funds immediately.

This call is a scam and the U.S. Treasury has been warning the public about this call. (See the link below for details). The calls received in Guilford have been coming from the number #302-927-7422. The caller will often leave a message and ask to be called back at that number. The will then be threatened with arrest if they do not pay the fictitious fine due.
As a reminder, do not give any personal information out to anyone calling you unless you know them and know that they work for a trusted organization that you are familiar with. Always ask for a call back number and verify with listed numbers that the person calling you is an employee of that agency. These scammers primarily prey on the elderly and immigrants so make sure you share this with your friends to spread the word.
