Obituary: David Baillie, 89, of Guilford

David Baillie, 89, died peacefully at home on March 31. 2022 with Priscilla, his devoted wife of 65 years, by his side. David was born in Brooklyn, New York where he attended Erasmus Hall High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University and served in the United States Air Force. Thereafter, he pursued his lifelong interests in art, music, and literature. David was a graphic artist specializing in monotype etching, lithography and drawing, principally portraits but also the human figure and landscapes. He did post-graduate work at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford in West Hartford, and learned printmaking at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven. He also attended life drawing sessions at various universities and art associations, most recently the New Britain Art League and the Lyme Art Association. He was an elected member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and the Essex Ar1 Association. His work was exhibited and won awards in many juried exhibitions in Connecticut museums and galleries. especially the Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, the Mystic Museum of Art in Mystic and the Essex Art Gallery in Essex. David was a skilled draftsman whose work reflected insight into human nature and emotions.

David enjoyed the-out-of-doors and worked with Priscilla in their private environmental consulting business out of their home for over thirty years. They developed information and data on lakes, ponds, freshwater and marine wetlands, and other aquatic ecosystems. He also enjoyed trail-walking and birding, and he loved classical music, especially the works of 18th century composers. David had a kind heart, a brilliant mind, a sharp wit and a quick sense of humor. He was good company.

The Baillie family came to Guilford, CT in 1928 and David and Priscilla have been residents there since 1977. David was preceded by his grandparents, David G. Sr. and Fannie Meade Hayes Baillie of Guilford, his parents, David G. Jr. and Margaret Seaman Baillie of Guilford, his uncle Hugh Baillie of La Jolla CA and two cousins, Hugh Scott Baillie of San Francisco, CA and Lee Adams of Salt Lake City. Utah.

The burial service will be private.
