Obituary: Rosemary (Peluso) Ostafin, 76, of Guilford

Devoted to family, she enjoyed bowling, baking Italian cookies with her mother and aunt and creating crafts to give to the people she loved.

Thursday, September 2, 2021 Rosemary (Peluso) Ostafin longtime resident of Guilford passed away at CT Hospice, Branford. Beloved wife of Richard F. Ostafin. Rosemary was born in Hartford on June 7, 1945, daughter of the late Nunzio and Vincenza (Rossi) Peluso. Loving mother of Karen Marie (Ostafin) Dubois and her husband David of Cheshire, Stephen D. Ostafin of Guilford and the late Kristin Anne Ostafin.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Zachary, Connor, Jacob and Michael Dubois, and Brandon and Alexa Ostafin. Sister of Joseph Peluso of Deep River, Joan Merrill of Deep River, and Nedine Sutton of Newington. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she holds dear to her heart. Rosemary treasured time spent with her cousin and friend Frances Olesen of South Carolina, and two lifelong friends Nancy Sheehan of Middletown and Janice Fisher of Newington.

Rosemary grew up in Newington and attended St. Mary School and Newington high school. She had worked at Security Insurance in Hartford where she met her future husband Richard. They had recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Rosemary was a devoted wife and mother of their three children. She was overjoyed with the arrival of each of her grandchildren and would visit daily to play, read and spend time with them. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed bowling, baking Italian cookies with her mother and aunt, and creating crafts to give to the people she loved.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery.
