Police Were On 'Baby Watch' Since 'Taylor' (The Cat) Was Rescued

She'd likely been well-cared for, but had been in the streets for a few weeks before being rescued by Guilford police. Now, she's a mama.

GUILFORD, CT — She was a stray for a few weeks, though with a collar and likely had come from a home filled with love. A neighbor noticed the cat and called police. There's a happy ending in this story, though that's not often the case.

Here's how Guilford police tell it:

"On October 13th, Guilford Police Officers responded to Taylor Lane for a cute little cat that had been wandering the neighborhood for a few weeks. The caller was concerned because no one in the neighborhood or surrounding streets recognized her. She had a collar, was clearly very affectionate and had been raised in a family environment, but also had a very round abdomen.

We took “Taylor” to the shelter, posted her photo on the Guilford Police Animal Shelter FB page, and quickly made an appointment to have her checked by our Veterinarian friends at Guilford Animal Hospital….

Thankfully Taylor did not have a tumor or any health issues…. But she was carrying at least 5 fully developed kittens in that round belly.

If anyone knows us at all, you would know we were all on baby watch regularly. Officers, Animal Control, Dispatchers, Records Administration, and yes even Chiefs, were waiting patiently for little Taylor to introduce her babies. On November 8th, Taylor gave birth to 6, yes 6, healthy kittens… these little cuties are just opening their eyes today and Mama is doing very well.

For now we will wait for their personalities to come out and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, the littles all have themed names… Turkey, Green Bean, Pumpkin, Butternut, Stuffin’, and Potato.

We will keep you updated on the progress of these little cuties and advise when Mama and her babies are ready for adoption."
