Rep. Scanlon Makes Significant Political Announcement

Scanlon issued a statement on Monday.

GUILFORD, CT — State Rep. Sean Scanlon announced Monday that he will not be running for state Sen. Ted Kennedy's senatorial seat. Kennedy announced he won't be seeking reelection.

This morning State Representative Sean Scanlon (D-Guilford) released the following statement:

"Over the last two weeks since Senator Kennedy announced he was not seeking re-election I've been touched by the dozens of people who have encouraged me to run for his seat. After much reflection, I have decided not to seek the 12th District State Senate seat. I genuinely love being the State Representative for my hometown and for Branford but having just gotten married last fall and looking to start a family with my wife Meghan, it's just not the time for me to run for State Senate and do that job the way I've done my current job - knocking every door, answering every email, returning every call and going to every event. Again, I am so thankful to everyone who has encouraged and advised me during this difficult decision, and I look forward to continuing our work together for a better Connecticut in my current capacity as a State Representative."
