Scammers Targeting Guilford Residents

Police offer tips on how to avoid this scam.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is urging residents to be vigilant and safeguard against scammers.

Police say, "Scammers are doubling down on their efforts in Guilford to bilk you out of your funds....Don’t fall for the call. The IRS does not call you and demand you pay them with a prepaid card. They don’t threaten you with arrest on a voicemail. The vast majority of these phone scams originate outside of the United States which creates a problem for prosecution and a problem trying to retrieve lost funds.

Don’t answer the phone if you don’t recognize the number. If you happen to answer and it is a scam... don’t try and engage them... just hang up and block the number. Thanks for sharing and stay safe!"
