GUILFORD, CT – The outgoing Board of Selectmen has voted unanimously to recommend to the incoming Board of Selectmen that it create a study committee to provide input and possible recommendations on the Nut Plains Path project.
The selectmen’s action came at its very last meeting as a board, on Nov. 20th. The pathway project has been a subject of much discussion in recent months and the outgoing board said it felt it was its responsibility to pass on a recommendation to the new board.

The proposed stretches over two miles, beginning on the State Street side of the Adams Middle School property, running up to Nut Plains Road, crossing Goose Lane, eventually turning on North Madison Road and ending near Guilford Lakes Elementary School.
Town officials state the path will likely be made of concrete and about six feet wide—wider than a sidewalk, so any residents with the path in front of their property would not be required to provide snow removal.

The project is estimated to cost $1.6 million with 80 percent funded with federal dollars, leaving the town to cover 20 percent or roughly $290,000.
The town held a well attended public information meeting on the path on Sept. 26 to solicit public input. Many spoke in favor. Many were opposed.
