GUILFORD, CT – The possibility of Guilford High School having its own swim team for boys and girls was discussed at a recent joint meeting of the Board of Education’s Operations Committee and the Board of Finance.

Currently, Guilford high school swimmers practice and compete, in meets, with the neighboring Branford High School swim team.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Freeman said there has been discussion about trying to start up a Guilford team, with the cost of the programs being shared between participating student’s families and the district.

If a team was formed, the district would most likely cover the cost of the coach, Freeman said, the parents of the participating swimmers would pick up the rest of the costs involved.

For practice, if a team was formed, it would rent pool time from the Soundview Family YMCA in Branford.

Freeman said a decision will be made in the near future, since the 2017-2018 budget is in the process of being drawn up, whether there is enough interest and enough participants to go forward with the plan to have Guilford teams.

If the plan does not go forward, the superintendent said Guilford would continue its arrangement to have its swimmers practice and swim meets with Branford swimmers.
