GUILFORD, CT – Ken MacKenzie is living up to his promise to primary for the position of first selectman on the Republican ticket. MacKenzie Wednesday turned in a petition with 207 signatures, far more than the 173 he needed to get on the ballot for a September primary against party endorsed candidate Robert Hartmann.

MacKenzie lost the Republican caucus, in a close 77-71 vote to Hartmann, but said afterwards he would likely primary for the position.

“I hit the ground running and the outpouring of support I have received enabled me to quickly collect the necessary signatures,” MacKenzie said on Wednesday.

Whoever the Republican candidate eventually is, he will face Democrat Matt Hoey in the November election.
