Vandals Hit Grass Island Shack in Guilford: Report

Local Life Scout John Markowski recently completed renovations to the historic structure.

GUILFORD, CT — The Grass Island Shack, a Guilford landmark renovated last year by local Life Scout John Markowski and others, was recently vandalized, reports the Guilford Courier.

The vandals kicked out some floor boards, which had been placed to stop people from trying to access the second story and the shack's roof, according to the publication.

And now town Markowski and town officials are huddling to come up with a plan to better protect the historic building. Last year, Markowski led a GoFundMe effort to raise funds to save the structure.

This is not the first time the structure has been vandalized. Over the years, people have spray-painted the building, including an incident in 2013 when the building was defaced with high school sports slogans.
