Quinnipiac University adjunct professor named PRSA Connecticut Chapter’s Practitioner of the Year

HAMDEN, Conn. – Nov. 22, 2024 – Quinnipiac University adjunct professor Andrea Obston, of Avon, has been named the Public Relations Society of America Greater Connecticut Chapter’s Practitioner of the Year.

Obston, owner of Andrea Obston Marketing Communications, was recognized for her distinguished career and significant contributions to advancing public relations in Connecticut, where she has impacted numerous organizations and communities.
“This award is one of the most meaningful honors I have received,” Obston said. “The Public Relations Society of America is the pre-eminent professional development organization in a field that I love and have dedicated decades of my professional life to. It is also very meaningful because it comes in recognition of my love for teaching public relations and creating the next generation of PR pros at Quinnipiac.”
Obston has taught courses in crisis communications, media relations, sports public relations, public relations writing and writing for strategic communications at Quinnipiac.
“Andrea Obston is a multi-faceted and talented PR professional, quite deserving of this recognition said Nadine Barnett Cosby, dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac. “As a member of our part-time faculty, she exhibits dedication to the learning experience of our students, quite often tapping into her professional network to provide experiential opportunities. We are fortunate to have her as a part of our team and incredibly proud of her receiving this honor.”
The PRSA CT Practitioner of the Year award celebrates professionals who exemplify the highest standards in public relations and create meaningful connections between organizations and their audiences. Obston has helped clients strengthen their brand reputation throughout her career, navigate crises, and foster community relationships. Her firm, AOMC, specializes in strategic branding, crisis communication, and reputation management, serving clients across various sectors.
“Andrea’s dedication to her craft and her community makes her a remarkable leader in public relations,” said Elizabeth Walden, president of PRSA CT. “She exemplifies the best qualities of public relations and its essential role in today's society with her knowledge of how to help companies build and maintain positive reputations.”
Added Katie Place, a professor of public relations at Quinnipiac and president-elect of PRSA Greater Connecticut: “Professor Obston demonstrates PRSA values in all she does across the profession and inside the classroom. She is a fierce and responsible advocate, ethical and fair communicator, inspiration to our students and young professionals and so incredibly worthy of this award.”
In addition to her professional achievements, Obston is a trusted mentor in the industry. She is known for her commitment to supporting public relations professionals at all career stages. She has worked closely with numerous nonprofit organizations, sharing her knowledge and passion for impactful communication.
Obston was not the only Quinnipiac winner. The Agency at Quinnipiac earned bronze, silver, and gold Mercury Awards, which celebrate Connecticut's best work in public relations.
