Sacred Heart Academy Science National Honor Society (SNHS) Hosts Mole Day

In honor of "Mole Day" (A mole is a chemistry unit equal to 6.02 X 10^23 particles), the Science National Honor Society hosted a 6.02 km mole walk on Tuesday, October 23. Student entry was $6.02 and proceeds will go to buy science books for less fortunate students. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place finishers.  "Mole Day" is observed annually by chemists and chemistry enthusiasts each October 23 as a way to commemorate Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10^23). The day takes places during National Chemistry Week, celebrated this year during October 21-27.The Sacred Heart Academy Science National Honor Society recently inducted twenty-nine new members, joining six returning members. Members of SNHS must meet strict requirements of grade point average and science class enrollment to qualify for membership. In addition to hosting Mole Day activities, the Science National Honor Society is active in tutoring, and running the school Science Fair and other science related events.Sacred Heart Academy, an independent college preparatory school founded in 1946 by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, successfully prepares young women in grades 9 – 12 for learning, service and achievement in a global society. There are 500 plus students hailing from New Haven, Fairfield, Middlesex, Hartford and New London counties.
