Burglar Smashes Window at Henny Penny, Fails to Get In, Gets Arrested: Hamden Police
The attempted burglary occurred at 2:45 a.m. on Friday.

Hamden, CT — A Hamden man is accused of smashing the front window of Henny Penny in an attempted overnight burglary, but was thwarted by “security measures” instituted by the store and promptly arrested, according to police.
Hamden Police responded to an active burglar alarm at Henny Penny, located at 3048 Dixwell Avenue, at about 2:45 a.m. on July 8, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said Officer William May arrived moments later and observed a motor vehicle, with no registration plates, quickly exit the area.

Simultaneously, May noticed that the front window of Henny Penny was shattered and he conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Old Dixwell Avenue.
The operator of the vehicle, Christopher Olson, had several pieces of broken glass on his clothing, Smith said, and a crowbar was located on the front seat of the vehicle.

Olson was promptly arrested and transported to police headquarters.
“Investigation revealed that although Olson shattered the window with the crowbar, he was unable to gain entry, due to specific security measures instituted by the store,” Smith said in a press release.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the security measures were.
Olson, 47, of 135 Sanford Street, Apartment 305, Hamden, was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools and failure to display registration plates.
Olson, who was detained on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 21.
Hamden Police further served an arrest warrant on Olson for his involvement in a larceny that occurred in Hamden months earlier, according to Smith.
