Looking for a new creative outlet? Discover the world of urban sketching with the Urban Sketchers of Connecticut on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 7:00 PM! Presented by Hamden Art League. 
Join us in the Social Hall of the Hamden Senior Center (2901 Dixwell Ave, behind the Miller Library) for an evening of art, inspiration, and community. Three local artists will share their personal sketchbooks and expertise:
✨ Susan Schapira introduces the global urban sketching movement and what it’s all about.
📐 John Laverack demonstrates custom tools he designed for perfect proportions, perspective, and travel-friendly painting.
📸 Sharon Foster hosts a slide showcase featuring stunning, diverse artwork from Central Connecticut members and top professional sketchers.

Unitarian Society of New Haven

The Unitarian Society of New Haven kicks off its 2026-27 Author Talk series with Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Beverly Gage and her latest book This Land Is Your Land: A Road Trip through US History. From her travels to museums, historic sites, roadside attractions, reenactments, and souvenir shops across America, Gage has crafted a guided tour of key moments that define US history – its successes, flash points, and challenges – in the places where it happened.
There will be time for questions and copies of the book will be available for purchase (at a 20% discount, courtesy of Possible Futures of New Haven) and signing.

Please join us for a fascinating lecture on "Mythic and Powerful Women in the Classical World". The presenter is Hamden resident Sarah Ruden. She is a prolific author, classics scholar, and translator who is widely regarded as one of the leading interpreters of ancient literature. She&nbsp;became the first woman in 2008 to publish a full English translation of Vergil’s Aeneid.
This event is offered in connection with the performance of Charles Mee's Iphigenia 2.0 by the Hamden High School Mainstage Ensemble from Nov. 12 to Nov. 14. Sarah Ruden will also be available for a Q&amp;A after the last 2 pm performance of Iphigenia 2.0 on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 14 in the Hamden High School Auditorium.
Sarah Ruden is a translator of classical and sacred literature, a poet, and a cultural journalist. She received her B.A. from the University of Michigan, her M.A. from&nbsp;Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars, and a Ph.D. in Classical Philology from&nbsp;Harvard University with a concentration on rhetoric and poetics. In her career as a translator spanning both essential Greek and Roman Classics and sacred literature, she has set new standards for accuracy, stylistic integrity, and accessibility. Her work, including cultural and human rights journalism, is deeply concerned with questions of power and truth, in accordance with her Quaker faith. She taught and wrote for around ten years in post-apartheid South Africa. She has won Guggenheim, Whiting, and Silvers grants, and numerous other awards.&nbsp;
This program is funded by the Friends of the Hamden Library.&nbsp;Registration is encouraged. Seating is limited.&nbsp;

This is part two of the program on anger management with&nbsp;Hamden resident Dave Wolffe, author of The Second Edition of Peace: The Other Side of Anger. Part one was presented on June 9. Attendance of the June 9 program is not a prerequisite for this event. This interactive workshop is geared towards adults who support adolescents, including parents, educators, counselors, social workers, and youth advocates. You&nbsp;will receive hands-on and situation-oriented tips for helping teens deal with anger and emotional triggers. Drawing from years of experience, Dave Wolffe will demonstrate how to communicate effectively, how to resolve conflict in healthy ways and prevent violence. Anger is a natural human emotion but how teenagers understand and express it can shape their relationships, choices, and future.By attending this interactive workshop, you will discover tools that encourage emotional awareness, build empathy, and promote peaceful problem-solving across real-life situations at home, in schools, and within peer relationships. 
Registration is recommended. This program is free and sponsored by the Friends of the Hamden Library.&nbsp;
Copies of Dave Wolffe's book,&nbsp;the Second Edition of Peace: The Other Side of Anger, will be available for sale for $20 cash at the event.&nbsp;
About Dave Wolffe
Dave Wolffe earned his ba<img src="https://d2jv02qf7xgjwx.cloudfront.net/accounts/247536/images/Dave_Wolffe.jpg">chelor’s and master's degrees in education from Queens College, CUNY. He has been an educator for over thirty-five years. For thirteen years he served as an adjunct lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. He was certified as a peer mediation specialist by the International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Teachers College, Columbia University. While working as a high school guidance counselor in New York, he established boroughwide violence-prevention programs in collaboration with his students. He is also a fellow of the National Anger Management Association (NAMA).&nbsp;
Wolffe developed the Anger Management Power (AMP) program, on which his book, the Second Edition of Peace: The Other Side of Anger and workshops are based. He currently resides in Connecticut with his life partner.
