Details Emerge In Son’s Murder Of Mother In Hamden: Police

A search for a missing woman quickly turned into a murder investigation with her son charged with her killing and being held on $5M bond.

HAMDEN, CT — Horrifying details have emerged in the death of Donna Tucker, who police say was killed by her son, Kyle Tucker, on Thursday. Hamden Police announced Saturday morning that they were actively searching for Donna Tucker, 60, of Broadway in Hamden, after she was reported missing by her sister on Friday, June 8. However, following a thorough investigation Friday night into Saturday, the search transitioned from a missing person complaint to a murder investigation, according to Hamden Police Chief Thomas Wydra.

Wydra announced on Saturday night that Kyle Tucker, 34, was arrested on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. In a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Wydra said that police had a suspicion about whether Donna Tucker was a missing person or if something else happened to her. Wydra said "instincts took over" and police launched the murder investigation and Kyle Tucker confessed to killing his mother. Wydra said the investigation is continuing but at this point, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Kyle Tucker is being held on a $5 million bond and he was arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on Monday morning.

The Hartford Courant reports that during the detailed confession, Kyle Tucker told police that he hit his mother in the head with a baseball bat and then burned her body in a backyard fire pit for eight hours. During the missing person investigation at the Broadway home, police found skeletal remains, including a crushed human skull, in the fire pit in the backyard, according to the Courant.

During the eventual confession, Kyle Tucker told police that “God got into” his body and led him downstairs with his baseball bat, according to WFSB 3. He also told police that his mother had been trying to kill him over the years by poisoning his food and putting parasites in his bed, WFSB 3 reports.

Wydra said that Kyle Tucker had mental health issues and police had responded to the home on a number of occasions over the years but they didn’t have reason to believe he would harm is mother. Kyle Tucker did not have a criminal history.
