Developer Pulls Controversial Plan To Build Nearly 300 Apartments In Hamden
The developer plans to submit a revised proposal for the project.

HAMDEN, CT — After facing much opposition from neighbors, the developer of a proposal to build nearly 300 apartments on Rocky Top Road has withdrawn the application, according to multiple reports. The residents’ fight to “Save Rocky Top” isn’t over, however, as Mountain View Estates President Gary Richetelli said he will resubmit a full set of plans that addresses the neighbors’ concerns.
The New Haven Register reports the original plan called for 288 apartments to be built on Rocky Top Road under the state’s affordable housing statues, meaning that a portion of the apartments would have been rented under the state’s income guidelines. A neighborhood group has fought the proposal for several months, citing concerns such as the environmental impact, the addition of hundreds of cars on a narrow road and a massive excavation of trap rock from the top of the ridge, according to NBC Connecticut.

The neighbors told NBC Connecticut that they know their fight isn’t over as they expect the revised plans to be submitted in June.
Richetelli said that the project would “create hundreds of construction jobs and pay close to a million dollars to the town of Hamden,” according to the Register.
