Fire Destroys Barn at Tree Farm in Hamden: Officials
The wind-driven fire also ignited nearby trees. No injuries were reported.
HAMDEN, CT — A barn at the Broken Arrow Nursery Tree Farm, located at 680 Evergreen Avenue, was destroyed in a wind-driven fire on Sunday afternoon. The fire also ignited nearby trees, according to fire officials.
The Hamden Fire Department responded to the scene at about 2 p.m. on Nov. 20 on the report of a well-involved fire at a barn on the tree farm, according to Deputy Chief Gary Merwede.
Responding crews found a “fully-involved wind-driven fire consuming the structure,” according to Merwede.

“Lines were stretched to protect from fire exposure to recently delivered inventory stored near the barn,” Merwede said in a press release. “The wind-driven fire ignited nearby trees as well.”

The fire was declared under control at 2:20 p.m. and no injuries were reported.

Merwede said the small barn structure was a “total loss” including some farm equipment that was stored inside.
The Hamden Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. No determination has been made at this time, according to Merwede.
