Fugitive Arrested In Connection To Fatal Hit-And-Run In Hamden

The fugitive was arrested in South Carolina in connection to a hit-and-run that killed a woman in Hamden, according to authorities.

HAMDEN, CT — A man who was wanted in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that killed a woman in Hamden in 2018 has been arrested in South Carolina.

William Benton Moultrie, 53, of Georgetown, was captured as a fugitive Thursday by Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office deputies, in conjunction with U.S. Marshals, officials announced.

Moultrie is wanted in connection to the death of Melissa Reddick, 51, of Hamden, who was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing Dixwell Avenue in the vicinity of Morse Street at about 2 a.m. on July 1, 2018.

Moultrie was arrested on charges that were filed by Hamden Police, including evading responsibility (death), second-degree criminal mischief, interfering with a police officer, falsely reporting an incident and tampering with evidence.

Moultrie is being held at Georgetown County Detention Center, pending extradition to Connecticut.
