HAMDEN, CT — Hamden is heading to the CIAC Class LL girls basketball championship this weekend at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The top-seeded Green Dragons advanced to their first appearance in a state final with a 57-44 victory over No. 5 Newington in the semifinals on Monday.
Hamden will face No. 2 Fairfield Ludlowe, which defeated seventh-seeded Conard 58-43 in the semifinals.

Both teams head to the championship game with 26-0 records.
The Green Dragons rolled into the Class LL state tournament, fresh off a 70-57 victory over town rival Sacred Heart Academy to claim the SCC championship.

Hamden defeated No. 16 Danbury 65-38 in its first game of the Class LL tournament in the second round, then eliminated eighth-seeded Enfield 46-34 in the quarterfinals to set up the semifinal showdown with Newington.
The Green Dragons will play either on Saturday or Sunday at a time to be announced.
