HAMDEN, CT — The 2019 municipal election is heating up in Hamden and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Hamden Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

Gary Walsh is running for the Board of Education as a Republican. He has been teaching for 25 years and earned a bachelor's of science degree in business at UConn and a master's of science in education at Southern Connecticut State University. He has two children, ages 12 and 7.

My entire career is in education as a teacher and in school leadership positions.

Renovate neighborhood school buildings; no charter schools; no magnet schools

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Lead Teacher in New Orleans and in several schools in Connecticut.

The best advice ever shared with me was ...

Go to work every day with the attitude that this current job is what I want to do and that I will continue to improve daily at this job.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

My greatest happiness is when I can help others to help themselves whether it's my former elementary school students or my current students who are young adults.
