HAMDEN, CT — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Hamden has increased to 126 as of Tuesday, April 7, according to Mayor Curt Balzano Leng. A second resident has also died from the virus. Hamden’s first death related to the new coronavirus was reported March 31.

“We must stay home,” Leng wrote in a post on Facebook. “We are risking people’s lives.”

Leng has been imploring residents to "get serious" about making positive healthy steps regarding the pandemic. In addition to closing all town playgrounds/playscapes, basketball and tennis courts, Leng recently issued another emergency order that expands on the directive for residents to avoid congregating in open space areas and maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet in all areas.

“For this to end, you must do your part,” Merwede wrote. “Wash your hands. Stay home. Save lives.”
