Hamden Fugitive Captured In North Carolina: U.S. Marshals
Authorities said they arrested a Hamden man who fled from a New Haven courthouse last month.
HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man who fled from a courthouse in New Haven during a court proceeding in March was captured in North Carolina on Monday, according to an announcement from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Chamar Kelley was arrested by U.S. Marshals in East Charlotte, NC, in the vicinity of Keyway Boulevard after a brief chase and the use of a K9.
A loaded 9mm semi-automatic Taurus handgun was recovered, authorities said in a news release.

While on probation for first-degree assault, Hamden police arrested Kelley on March 24 in connection with a domestic incident, authorities said.
On March 30 during a court proceeding in New Haven and while out on bond, Kelley fled from the courthouse and later cut off his probation-monitored global positioning system (GPS) bracelet, authorities said.

The Connecticut U.S. Marshal Violent Fugitive Task Force and the New Haven Police Department tracked Kelley to North Carolina.
Kelley will be facing additional weapons charges in North Carolina pending his extradition back to Connecticut, where he will face violation of probation and weapons charges, authorities said.
Kelley will be housed at the Mecklenburg County Jail in Charlotte, NC.
Since its inception in 1999, the CT Violent Fugitive Task Force's partnerships with police agencies has resulted in over 11,000 arrests, the U.S. Marshals said.
