Hamden Homeowner Detains Burglar Until Police Arrive
The Mill Rock Road resident returned home to find a burglar at his house.

A Hamden resident returned home Sunday morning to find a burglar at his residence and was successfully able to detain the man before calling police, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.
Police responded to a report of a burglary-in-progress at a Mill Rock Road residence at about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Smith said that as the homeowner returned to his residence, he was approached by an individual, who had burglarized his home. The homeowner successfully detained the individual, who was identified as Prudent Bute, before contacting police.

A search of Bute’s motor vehicle led to the discovery of numerous stolen items, including power tools and coins, according to Smith.
Bute, 45, of 16 Shepard Street in New Haven, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. Bute, who was detained on a $5,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 3.
