Hamden Man Accused of Breaking into Library

Desmond Howard, 20, arrested for allegedly stealing a computer and cash from the Hamden Public Library on Circular Avenue.

A Hamden man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly breaking into the Hamden Public Library on Circular Avenue in October.

Desmond Howard, 20, of 35 Gorham Avenue in Hamden, was arrested on a warrant and charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.

Hamden police responded to the library on Oct. 14 on a report of a forcible burglary, according to a press release.

Investigation revealed that entry was gained through a basement window, and once inside, the individual responsible stole a computer and an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

Police said that Detective Scott Levenduski conducted an extensive investigation and subsequently submitted an arrest warrant application to the court for Howard.

On Nov. 4, Detective Joseph Liguori and Officer Brett Ferrara observed Howard walking in the area of Circular Avenue, according to police. Howard was promptly taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.

Howard was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 18.
